Get Started Checklist

It’s Easier Than You Think.

You likely already know most of the information you need to prepare your estate plan.

Most of it you either have in your address book or carry around in your head.

  • For each job you need to fill, for example, your financial representative, you will want to have one or more backups.

  • For each person you name, I will need their name, address and telephone number.

  • If you have a copy of the deed(s) to real estate you own, that will be helpful. If you don’t know where they are, I can help find that information.

1. Who will help take care of things for you?

  • Financial Representative

  • Guardian for Minor Children

  • Person to Make Medical Care Decisions

2. What assets do you have?

  • Bank Accounts

  • Investments

  • Real Estate

  • Life Insurance

  • Personal Property

3. Who will receive your assets?

  • List your first and subsequent choices.

  • Final Charities if all beneficiaries die before you.

4.  WHEN and HOW assets will be distributed:

  • You can make multiple distributions over several years.

  • You can have money used to pay for college.

  • Assets can be given to multiple generations.

  • Assets can be distributed in many ways at almost any time.

Sometimes it is helpful to create a flowchart showing alternate beneficiaries if the first people listed die before you do.
